Elevating life’s big moments through storytelling.

Hello!I'm Jemma — a Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrant working across Greater Geelong and beyond. But before I started marrying people, I was a journalist. Which means I’m professionally nosy (in the best possible way).I know how to ask the questions that get you past “we met at a party” and into the good stuff. The first date. The terrible pick-up line. The weird coincidence. The moment one of you thought, “this could be something”.And then I know what to do with all those answers. Because the best ceremonies aren’t the ones with the most information. They’re the ones with the right information. The tiny details that make your relationship unmistakably yours, woven into your ceremony in such a way that guests feel like they’re re-reading a favourite book. The meet cute they’ve heard about a hundred times, but somehow hits different when you’re all gathered to celebrate it. The nostalgic reference that reminds them of a younger version of you. The unexpected detail that has everyone smiling and a few quietly reaching for the tissues.Words hold weight. Never more so than on your wedding day. And my superpower is knowing how to use them to capture a story, evoke emotion and set a tone — first on the page, then in the delivery.Alongside years as a professional writer, I’m also an experienced event host. Not just the kind friends ask to MC their wedding reception (but also that kind). I’ve facilitated countless panels and conducted live interviews with high-profile people in front of hundreds, so I know how to communicate clearly, connect quickly and keep an audience engaged and at ease.Maybe your guests already know every chapter of your story. Maybe we’ll uncover a few they’d forgotten. Maybe we’ll surprise them with a new perspective. But I’ll know it’s landing when I spot the inevitable “that is so them” nudge between guests.Because when every detail has a reason for being there, the result is something that couldn’t belong to anyone else. And that’s exactly how your ceremony (and indeed, your entire wedding day) should feel.As for the woman behind the words? The most cherished parts of my own story include my one-in-a-million husband and our two beautiful boys.My favourite things in life are a mix of the magically ordinary and the wonderfully extraordinary. Our little family gives me the first; this work gives me a front-row seat to the second. And I feel very lucky to have both. Thanks for being here.

THE PROCESS

1. SAY HELLOIt all starts with a simple enquiry form (or, you know, an email — I’m not precious). You send me your wedding date and a few details about the day, and I check whether I’m available. If our calendars align, I’ll send through more information about me, my pricing and the process (although you’ve probably already had a good snoop around here anyway). If I’m unavailable, I’ll pass on the names of some other wonderful celebrants who I think could be a good fit for the kind of day you’re envisioning.

2. VIBE CHECKIf you’re interested, we book a 30-minute obligation-free Zoom call.Think of it as a speed date where I can tell you a little more about how I work, hear all about your plans, answer your questions and — most importantly — see if we click. After all, your celebrant is part of the experience, not just the ceremony. They’ll influence your planning journey, stand beside you for the biggest moment of the day, and use their words and energy to help set the tone for everything that follows.Finding the right fit is important.

3. MAKE IT OFFICIALIf you get that ‘she’s the one for us’ feeling, we’ll make it official.Your date is secured with a non-refundable booking fee and we’ll get the first piece of legal paperwork underway: your Notice of Intended Marriage.Once the official bits are taken care of, we dive into the fun stuff — creating a ceremony that’s unmistakably yours.

4. PLANNING FUNWhether we’ve got six weeks or 18 months together, I’ll break everything down into manageable steps to keep overwhelm to a minimum and planning enjoyment to a maximum. We’ll prepare the legal paperwork, nail down logistics, and reminisce about your relationship so I can craft a ceremony that feels completely you – because when it’s intentional, it’s memorable.I’ll be in your inbox every step of the way (in a way that feels supportive, not spammy), so you never have to carry the mental load of wondering, ‘What’s next?’

5. FINER DETAILSAs we get closer (typically about two weeks out), we’ll do a final run-through of all the important ceremony details so everyone knows exactly what’s happening and when.I’ll answer every question and calm (almost) every nerve, so all that’s left is the increasingly exciting ‘this is actually happening’ feeling.I’ll also give you a cheat sheet packed with practical tips, tricks and cues. That way, if you decide to take the wedding party along to your final site visit, you can rehearse the big moments all together.

6. ON THE DAYI’ll arrive about an hour before your ceremony to set up my PA, do a sound check, touch base with your key suppliers and make sure all the moving parts are where they need to be.I’ll check in with your VIPs to make sure they have everything they need to enjoy the moment and, most importantly, come and find you both separately for a steadying hug and final legal signature. And then? It’s time to get you married.

7. AFTER "I DO"You better believe I’ll be lining up with your loved ones ready to give you the traditional you-did-it squeeze. Then I’ll smile the whole way home while mentally replaying your ceremony and leave you to enjoy the celebration of a lifetime with your nearest and dearest (unless I’m staying on to MC).And while you disappear into your newlywed bubble, I’ll take care of the final admin. Within three business days, I’ll lodge your marriage with Births, Deaths and Marriages and arrange for your official marriage certificate to be mailed to you. I’ll also share a handy name-change checklist if you need one.I’ll send a copy of your ceremony to your inbox, too. Because the day goes by in a beautiful, slightly surreal blur, and once the confetti has settled, you’re going to want to read it back and laugh at the bits you’d forgotten, cry at the bits that got you, and relive the whole glorious thing. And although our marriage-making work together will have come to an end, my unofficial role as your relationship cheerleader will not. Expect me to enthusiastically double-tap your Instagram updates for the rest of eternity.Sound like fun? Let’s chat!

KIND WORDS

Choosing the celebrant who will stand up there with you is no small thing. In many ways, it can be the hardest wedding vendor to get a feel for.You can tour the venue, taste the food, browse a photographer’s work, trial your hair and makeup, maybe even catch your band or DJ at a gig. But your celebrant? It’s often a 30-minute, speed-date-style vibe check and then a whole lot of faith that they’ll be the right fit for the day you want to create.Which is why, when couples take the time to reflect on what it was like to work with me, I share it.Not for a giant pat on the back, but because I hope it gives you a little insight into the experience — and, perhaps more importantly, how it might make you feel.If somewhere in these words you recognise the kind of celebrant and approach you’re looking for, I’d love to hear from you.

EMMA & JAKE

"Jemma has a special way with words. After a super relaxed chat and trip down memory lane, Jemma managed to turn our lives into a fairytale story. Her communication was fantastic - she thought of everything! She was clear, organised and deeply personal and even gave us insightful tips and tricks only a seasoned wedding professional would think of. She understood the vibe of our ceremony and was entertaining and witty when interacting with our guests. Jemma made our story unique and eased both of our nerves by making the whole process and ceremony effortless. If you’re looking for a celebrant to write your story like she’s your best friend, look no further. A truly unforgettable piece to our wedding puzzle."

LAUREN & LUKE

“Choosing Jemma to officiate our ceremony was one of the easiest decisions we made throughout our wedding planning process and how lucky we were she said ‘yes’. From the moment we met Jemma she made us feel seen, heard and totally comfortable. We instantly felt Jemma's kindness, passion and infectious energy, like we were chatting with an old friend (who just happened to be seriously talented in officiating weddings). From start to finish, Jemma brought a level of professionalism, expertise and support that we really needed to our wedding journey. Jemma took the time to get to know us, understand our story and craft a ceremony that was made just for us. It was beautiful, personalised and filled with so much love and meaning. More than just a celebrant, Jemma made sure our wedding and ceremony were everything we dreamed it would be and more. We couldn't have dreamt up a better person to marry us. Trust us, a wedding decision you will never regret.”

RYLIE & DAVE

“I had seen Jemma in action as a public speaker over the years and knew she would be incredibly warm and genuine on our wedding day, making her the perfect celebrant. What really blew me away, though, throughout the planning process was her ability to craft a story and turn our memories and relationship into the most beautiful piece of storytelling. When we first read our wedding script, we were brought to tears. Jemma captured our relationship and our love in a way we couldn't have articulated better ourselves. She is an absolute wordsmith, and we had so many of our guests tell us how captivated they were throughout the ceremony and that it was one of the most beautiful ceremonies they had ever attended. Jemma was also incredibly professional and organised, which I think is so important when you have someone responsible for handling the legalities of your marriage. She is a true all-rounder, a talented writer, a captivating MC and the utmost professional when it comes to bringing your dream day to life. But beyond all of her incredible talents, Jemma is also such a naturally warm, genuine and lovely person, which makes her an absolute joy to work with. We couldn't recommend Jemma highly enough!”

DEMI & RENN

“We can't thank Jemma enough for the incredible job she did as our wedding celebrant. As a couple who isn't particularly romantic or overly sentimental, we were a bit unsure about how a ceremony would feel – but Jemma struck the perfect balance. She created something truly beautiful, heartfelt, and full of warmth, without it ever feeling too mushy or over the top. Her ability to blend just the right amount of seriousness with humour made the ceremony feel genuine, relaxed, and uniquely ‘us’ From the very beginning, the whole experience was smooth and easy — Jemma was organised, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about what she does. As a mum herself, she understood the chaos that sometimes comes with wedding planning and handled everything with calmness and grace. I never once felt like a burden — only supported and completely at ease in her hands. If you're looking for someone who will make your ceremony feel personal, meaningful, and a true reflection of who you are as a couple — Jemma is the one. Highly recommended!”

AMBER & RYAN

“From our initial chat with Jemma, we knew she was the one to officiate our wedding. She is warm, kind, organised and very clearly loves what she does. Our day included some big last-minute changes and she helped lead this with the calm and professionalism that ensured everything continued to run smoothly. Her way with words and ability to tell stories made for the most beautiful, customised ceremony that captured our story perfectly. There were many guests who told us how wonderful our ceremony was, with a special mention of the role Jemma played. In the inevitable, stressful moments she was wonderful at offering (welcome) advice and reminders about what’s important. We could not have asked for anything more and would recommend her in a heartbeat.”

MEGAN & HENRY

“From the moment we had our first meeting with Jemma, we both knew she would be the perfect one to marry us. She is so warm and welcoming and made what seemed like a stressful experience so easy to navigate. We had complete trust in Jemma to help organise the legal side of things with friendly reminders and explanations that took a big weight off our shoulders deep in the midst of planning everything else! She was such a warm and calm presence on our big day, and the way she crafted our story together brought us both to tears. We still get compliments from our guests on how beautiful, thoughtful and true to us our ceremony was and it’s all thanks to Jemma. You cannot go wrong with having Jemma for your most special day — one of the best decisions you can make.”

TALIA & TROY

“We honestly don’t have the words to thank Jemma enough for being such a perfect part of our wedding day. She matched our vibe so effortlessly and the way she told our story was more perfect than we ever could have imagined. It was heartfelt, charming, beautifully delivered and truly us — we couldn’t have asked for more. She made us laugh and tear up all at once. The whole process with her was so fun and easy, and knowing she was there to lead the official part of the day gave us so much comfort. She made everything feel so, so seamless and special and we are so grateful. Thank you, Jemma, for everything — for your warmth, your energy and for making our ceremony so unforgettable. We had so many guests say how lovely the ceremony was and how wonderful you were! We’ll be reliving it forever.”

HANNAH & TRAVIS

“We honestly couldn't have picked someone more perfect to officiate our ceremony. Jemma matched our vibe from our very first Zoom call and brought our ‘not too lame’ vision to life with such ease. We were both pretty nervous for our vows but all her prep and confidence boosting made us feel so comfortable up there and all of our friends and family were raving about her during cocktail hour, so I think that sums it up! When we read back over the ceremony we got teary all over again. The rest of our day was so, so, so much fun and we really do feel she set the scene for all of it. We are now forever fans of you, Jemma, and will recommend you to everyone we ever meet! Can't thank you enough.”

SARAH & SCOTT

“Jemma is beautiful at what she does, and was such a special part of our big day. From our first conversation, she made us feel very comfortable and relaxed, suiting our vibe to a tee. Jemma spoke as though she'd known us for years, was engaging, incorporating both laughter and happy tears for us and our guests. She took charge with minimal guidance from us, and made us feel very relaxed that everything would run smoothly — and it certainly did. She made it look effortless, although we're sure she put in a lot of work to execute everything so perfectly! Not only did we love Jemma, we received so many compliments from our guests on how good a job Jemma did, asking where we had found a celebrant like her. We will recommend Jemma's services to anybody who will listen, and we are truly grateful for her large contribution to our special day.”

LAUREN & JAY

“Jemma was everything we could have hoped for as our celebrant! From the very beginning, she was incredibly organised, ensuring that everything went smoothly and according to plan. She took the time to get to know us, which made the ceremony feel personal and truly reflective of our relationship. Her warmth, professionalism and attention to detail shone through and she created a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony that we will never forget. We felt completely at ease with her and she truly set the tone for our entire day. We can’t recommend her highly enough — she was absolutely perfect in every way!”

RUBY & GUY

“Jemma, is so talented in every single way. We knew from the moment we met her that she would be the perfect person to tell our story. She had such a kind, warm and gentle approach in connecting with us. She told our story better than we could have ever imagined. She made us (and our guests) laugh, cry, smile and feel every single emotion. We could not fault our experience with her. Jemma, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We can't wait to see where your career takes you. We love you.”

MEG & LUKE

“We were privileged to have our beautiful friend Jemma MC our wedding before she became a qualified celebrant and were blown away by her professionalism, attention to detail and ability to keep the energy and love high throughout the entire reception. Jemma is a bubble of kind, thoughtful and truly engaging energy. We have no doubt she will bring the same level of enthusiasm, warmth and expertise to every ceremony she creates. We would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for an engaging celebrant who will work closely with them to create a personalised and unforgettable ceremony.”

ANDREA & MICHAEL

“We were incredibly lucky to have Jemma as our celebrant on our special day. Her words were not only beautiful, but deeply meaningful and they truly captured the essence of our love and our story. We can't help but relive the ceremony and we truly believe it was special because of the words that were spoken. Thank you, Jemma, for helping create a ceremony that we will cherish forever.”

RENEE & MEL

“Jemma was the perfect human to officiate our small and intimate ceremony. Jemma bought warmth and care with her words. She took the time to listen to what we wanted and conveyed that perfectly for the day. Jemma made the whole process effortless and answered any questions we had for her. Couldn't recommend Jemma more for your special day.”

ALYSSA & ALEX

“Jemma has an incredible gift for storytelling and was everything we’d hoped for in a celebrant. She told our story with such warmth, wit and thoughtfulness, creating a ceremony that captured us beautifully. She is kind, professional and every detail was considered. She made the whole experience very easy and enjoyable. We are so grateful.”

PERRI & TOM

“We couldn’t recommend Jemma enough. After watching her officiate our friend’s wedding we knew right away that we wanted her for ours. She made the whole process in the lead up to our wedding easy and captured our story perfectly on the day. It can be so hard selecting wedding vendors but this decision was by far the easiest.”

FAQ

Do you marry all couples?

Absolutely. As long as you’re both consenting adults and we can tick all the legal boxes (celebrants do have a few rules to follow — uninteresting, but important).

Whoever you love, wherever you come from and however you choose to celebrate it, you’re welcome here.

I truly believe that all love stories are beautiful and I’d be delighted to help you start the next chapter of yours.

Do you travel outside Geelong?

I do. I’m based in Geelong (born and raised, in fact), but qualified to marry couples anywhere in Australia.

Travel is an additional cost for ceremonies more than 40km beyond my local area. Simply enquire with your ceremony location details and I can provide a travel fee estimate.

How long does a ceremony go for?

Long enough to do the moment justice, never so long that it loses its magic.

As a guide, most of my ‘Signature’ ceremonies sit around 25–30 minutes, but there’s no set formula. After all, it’s where the feeling of the whole day begins, so the goal is a ceremony that reflects you — however long that takes.

The best part? As a civil celebrant, I’m not bound to include a host of lengthy rituals or traditions that may not resonate. In fact, the legally required elements of your ceremony only make up about 130 words in total (plus the signing of certificates/documents), which means everything else is ours to personalise.

Where do you stand during the ceremony?

I may be the narrator of your ceremony, but you’re very much the main characters.

That’s why, for most of the ceremony, you’ll find me positioned off to one side rather than standing between the two of you (except for those all-important legal bits).

Whether you choose to face each other or look out at the people gathered in front of you, this set-up keeps the focus where it belongs: on you. It also means your photographer can capture all those candid ceremony moments without a third wheel in the shot.

My job is to lead the ceremony with confidence, warmth and just enough personality to keep things interesting, without ever making it feel like a performance starring me.

What if we’re not the romantic type?

Your ceremony should be more than just the legally required portion of the day before the bar opens – it should be one of the best parts. Which is why I’ll never make you endure a ceremony that doesn’t feel authentically you.

The length, the tone, the stories told (or omitted) are all led by you. My love of words doesn’t translate to long, drawn-out ceremonies; it means knowing what’s worth saying and what best suits the atmosphere you’re trying to create.

And if you’re quietly wondering whether your relationship is ‘grand’ or ‘romantic’ enough, let me assure you that everyone has a journey worthy of sharing. You just tell me the memories that make you smile most and I’ll work my magic. There’s a little rom-com in all of us.

Can you help us with our vows?

Of course. I know how intimidating it can be. That initial “where do I even begin to describe what this person means to me?” feeling overwhelms almost everyone at first. And yet, with a few pointers, I promise it can be a genuinely enjoyable process.

My approach is intentionally hands-off — your vows should sound like you, not me (or ChatGPT), but I won’t just send you on your way with a blank page and some good luck. I’ve got plenty of tips and tricks to help get the words flowing, and once you’ve got something down, I can help you finesse the length and tone.

And if the thought of standing in front of a crowd and saying anything more than the legally required wording fills you with dread? That’s completely fine too. You can leave the wordsmithing to me — there’ll still be no shortage of feeling, or any doubt about how much you love each other. No microphone-induced trauma required.

Do you supply your own PA system?

Always. I bring a professional, reliable sound system and wireless microphone to every ceremony, so you don’t need to add ‘sort out the PA’ to your (already overflowing) to-do list.

It’s completely self-powered, so whether we’re on a beach, in a paddock or dealing with a little unexpected wind, every moment of your ceremony will be heard and enjoyed by your guests — even those at the back.

I also make it available for videographers to tap into and capture crisp, clear audio for their content (the brand is a popular one with them for its ease and reliability).

Plus, if you’re not having live music at the ceremony, you have the option to play your song selections through my system too. No added fees, just making the most of what’s already there and taking one more thing off your plate.

Can you MC our reception?

Absolutely. I was a professional MC before I became a celebrant, so I know how to keep a run sheet moving, hold the attention of an increasingly chatty room and quietly deal with any spot fires before you even know they’re happening.

Reception MC services are available exclusively to couples who have booked me as their celebrant and can be added for $800.

Why hire a professional MC?

Because being a confident speaker doesn’t necessarily mean knowing how to MC a wedding in a way that suits the couple, their guests and the atmosphere they want to create.

A great MC is doing far more than introducing speakers and holding a microphone. They’re keeping an eye on the run sheet, liaising with other suppliers and thinking on their feet when the unexpected happens.

And while your funny mate or microphone-loving uncle might be brilliant at working a room, handing them the MC reins can also mean they’re spending a good chunk of the night thinking about what happens next rather than enjoying it with you.

With a professional, the finer details are taken care of. Does the next speaker have their reading glasses? Is their glass full before they raise a toast? Does the photographer need five more minutes of golden hour?

An experienced MC is well-versed in calmly troubleshooting a live event so the little hiccups stay little. Your focus should be firmly in the love bubble and out of the event logistics.

Do people still do a rehearsal?

Some do, some don’t — it’s completely personal preference. A rehearsal can be useful for checking the length of your aisle song, practising the pace of the walk and showing your bridal party where they’ll stand (if you’re having one). But it’s absolutely not a necessity — most of those things are pretty intuitive.

I don’t conduct a physical on-site walk-through in the days immediately before your event because I’m usually performing someone else’s wedding (and your venue is often in use too). Instead, we’ll chat through every element of the ceremony — including exactly what happens and when — at our final catch-up about two weeks out.

I’ll also give you a document packed with practical tips, tricks and cues so if you do decide to take the wedding party along to your final site visit, you’ll have everything you need to conduct an in-person practice run.

And on the day? There’s no choreography to memorise. My job is to make sure you can be fully in the moment while your team and I quietly keep everything moving around you. You just turn up, take a breath and do the marrying bit. I’ll handle the rest.

How far in advance should we book?

The short answer: as soon as you know your date. After all, your celebrant is the one vendor who makes it a wedding, not just a (truly epic) party.

Fridays and Saturdays, particularly during peak season, can book out well in advance. But I also take weekday weddings, Sundays and shorter-lead celebrations where my calendar allows.

If you have a date in mind, just ask. If I’m unavailable, I’ll always pass on the names of some other wonderful celebrants who I think could be suited to the kind of day you’re envisioning.

What’s the process if one of us wants to legally change our surname after the wedding?

Once I’ve registered your marriage with Births, Deaths and Marriages and ordered your legal marriage certificate, it will typically be posted to you within 4–6 weeks.

An important-but-easy-to-miss detail: this is different from the (still very legit but more decorative-looking) certificate you sign and keep on the day. The one you receive after the fact looks more like your birth certificate and is the slightly more power-wielding document you need for the name change process.

Said process has to be completed by the individual themselves, so unfortunately I can’t ease the post-aisle admin load for you. But what I will do is give you a handy checklist of all the places you may need to update your name (we’re talking everything from the electoral roll to your Qantas points). That way, you can tackle it in stages — not in one chaotic identity-crisis afternoon — and keep track of where you’re at.

Just the general gist — guest numbers, dream vibe, vendors you’ve already locked in, or whatever you know so far. And if you’re still very much in the figuring-it-out phase, that’s completely fine too. No need to have it all sorted before you reach out!
